Is there a way to export historical SMS data/content? I can see it within the app, but when I follow the instructions to request the export, the file doesn't contain the SMS information. Is this something the API tool would do for me?
The documentation is difficult. It's not just you.
What do you want to achieve? Are you a developer and are you on the same project?
I am not the developer, but need to inform my team what resources are needed. We have an urgent immediate need and need to plan for our long term needs for extracting data.
I was asking Robert Evans. I know you are not a developer so that is why I cannot really help. Why don't you ask your team to post their questions here? Or ask your team to read the dev guides I posted earlier and come back with technical questions if they still face problems.
Thanks! We've created the account, selected sandbox, but there are no app to chose from in the drop down, so we can't run anything. What do we do from here?
Oh no, of course you have to create an app for your account. I don't really know how I can help if you are not a developer. So please read the dev guide to learn how to start.

Maybe its not beta, but the "get message list API" you mentioned above.
Are you a developer? Do you mean a sandbox account to test?
I'm not the developer, but the product owner. I am trying to get my developer access.
What is your company name or account id or main company number?

You have not setup a sandbox account yet. Login https://developers/ringcentral.com with your production user login credentials and select the Console tab from the main menu. Look at the left hand-side pane you will see the Sandbox Accounts. Create one and set it up.
How do I get access to the beta API? It doesn't seem to allow me past the fist step. To I need additional permission?
What Beta API are you talking about?
You can use the message export API set to do the job. It allows you to export the entire account message store content. Read this blog for details. If you want to export data per extension, you have to use the get message list API instead.
