Why am I getting notified about issues that have nothing to do with me?

I have been getting emails notifying me about questions. Normally in a site like this, one only received such notification if one started or commented on the question. I have done nothing like that, but I am getting notifications.

Why?

I had the same question. My assumption is that for whatever reason everyone has be opted into notifications. Probably as a sneaky way to increase traffic to this forum.

I was able to turn off the notifications and the auto follow all new questions.
