We are trying to configure an extension where any call made will directly get into voicemail without ringing the phone.

How can this be acheived? Can we turn any extension only to receive voicemails and not any calls?

You may configure the custom answering rules of the extension and set it to Take Messages Only. Follow the guide on the KB Article below on how to set it up. https://support.ringcentral.com/article/How-to-access-the-advanced-call-handling-feature.html

One of the way is setting "DnD" or "Do not Disturb" in the extension. All the call will be getting into voicemail.
